On a Gentoo system, Python 2.5 is still masked as being a package in
"testing". This means that without some reconfiguration, you won't be able
to install it by using emerge.

Since a lot of Gentoo tools rely on Python, if James tells you that you will
need to upgrade to Python 2.5, I would suggest downloading Python source and
compiling it and installing it in your home directory.

I know that most of our development machines do have Python 2.5, so it may
be the case that the binaries rely on 2.5. Otherwise, if you compile from
source, 2.4 should be fine.
