Chapter 5 - Excel Basics

5.5 Printing

It is important to preview the results before printing an Excel Spreadsheet. The difficulty in printing a Spreadsheet is in the arbitrary sizes of the spreadsheet and the arbitrary positions of the objects on them (i.e., graphs & tables). Excel defaults to reasonable page boundaries most of the time, but previewing is a good idea nevertheless. Previewing is done via the File pull-down menu.

Also, the "Set Print Area" is available on the same menu after you have selected some area of the spreadsheet to be printed. This is a useful option to print restricted areas only.

The "Page Setup" option allows a choice between "Portrait" and "Landscape" for the printing mode. It also allows to scale up or down the spreadsheet to fit more information on each page. This scaling is reflected in the print preview.

Also of interest, the "Header/Footer" panel of the "Print Setup" menu. The header and footer are normally used to identify the work and/or the author and date.
