Section 5.7.2 - Tabulate and Plot the Function f(x) = a x b

The function needs to be evaluated at each value of x. To each cell containing a value of x, there must be an evaluation of the function in the cell adjacent to x in the same row. This is done via two easy steps:

  1. Evaluate the function for the first value of x ( type "=" and the function based on the value of x in the same row - the value of x is obtained by clicking in the "x" cell )
  2. "Fill Down" the column; this is done either of two ways:

- Select an area, including the pattern cell, and use the menu edit-fill-down option
- Select the pattern cell, bring the cursor to the lower RHS corner (cursor shape becomes a +), and drag over the area to fill

Now that we have a table containing the x's on the numerical grid and corresponding f(x)'s, we can easily plot the function by using the Chart Wizard as we did earlier.
