Arp 1 and Neighboring Galaxies in Ursa Major

Thanks to Joe and Anne Lamb for hosting a great ATM meeting.
Despite increasing clouds during the meeting, we were able to catch an interesting view of the Sc spiral Arp 1, NGC2857, lying in the center of the frame

Sc galaxies such as Arp 1 have loosely wound spiral arms and a faint but clear nucleus. Southwest (below and to the right) of Arp 1, tidal tails extending from the galaxies NGC2856 and NGC2854 are reasonably well shown. A stretched image is presented in

although some clouds begin to show in the stretched image. Earlier in the evening, the skies were clearer for our exposures of M78 and the Eridanus gravitational arc. The resulting images will be presented after further analysis.

Dick
