The wonderful world of Shepley, Holmfirth and Huddersfield
These are a selection of photos of where I grew up. I didn't take them
though. Randall was visiting England and paid a visit to my
parents. These are just some of the many photos he took.
Lets start close to home - the garden in fact. Here are Mum and Dad
ready to take Randall out for a 'stroll'. Note the summer house in the
background - Dad built that.
New addition - the front garden in the snow Christmas 2001.
And the back garden in the snow also Christmas 2001.
This church is opposite our house. Fine until the bells start early in
the morning!
These dark photos are of the busy commercial centre of Shepley that
consists of the Co-op
Doug's shop
and the library. Note the extensive opening times!
We also have a train - the Huddersfield to Sheffield train calls at
Shepley (if you are lucky). Also taken Christmas 2001.
This is the corner of Jenkyn Lane - the start of the walk through the woods.
Moving up Marsh Lane we have views looking over Shepley and Shelley
with Emley Moor in the back ground.
This is a zoom up of Emley Moor television mast - the second largest concrete
structure in Europe (or something daft like that!). This is the third
construction - the others fell down.
Now we get to the tree house, where I spent extensive amounts of time
with Claire and Ursula when we were between the ages of 10-13. The
tree house itself is no longer there but this was the tree. This is
where I said I would be an astronomer.
These are views from the tree house.
Claire, Ursula and I were going to run away on the horses owned by
this farm.
This is the hamlet called Fulstone.
This is further over - Huddersfield can just about be made out in the distance.
Walk a bit further (I think Randall was getting tired by this stage)
and you get to Hirst's Lane.
The roads round here are rather different to the ones in Philly. Where
are the markings!
Looking over to Holme Moss
Holmfirth is less than 3 miles from Shepley and the heart of Last
of the Summer Wine country. This is Sid's cafe
Dad decided to show Randall what a proper pub was so here is the Nook.
Mine's a pint!
This is just one photo of Huddersfield, a building off St George's Square.
This is a view of Huddersfield from Castle Hill. Not a bad town.
After all the sight seeing, back to my parents for a dinner. Looks
like Mum had a glass of wine! Finally a photo of Alex, my brother.
And given the most famous export from Yorkshire appears to be
Wensleydale cheese - here is a photo of some!
