Hello basin group,
Just a quick update on the status of visit and ipython on frinkiac.
I tried to use the binary version of Visit 1.6 and, unfortunately, there
were problems (ie my test program crashes) when using the binary
version. I'll need more time to investigate this and will most likely
start to compile Visit 1.6 just so we can have Visit installed again ASAP.
The IPython tools should be completely installed on Frinkiac. I tested
them, and they seem to work with the code we have. The tutorial on
basin_remote wiki is accurate for these updated versions. Please let me
know if there are any problems getting anything to run.
Once I get the situation settled with Visit, I'll probably move to the
new interface that I've created for the IPython system. The interface is
nothing spectacular, but it's purpose is to abstract away the details of
connecting to the basin cluster through IPython. In addition, it will
provide some useful hooks for later development involving the client and
cluster side cooperation.
Thanks,
~doug
