Meeting Wednesday

Hello BASIN Group,

I'm not sure if there is a BASIN meeting scheduled for this week (I
would assume yes), but I wanted to let the group know that I will not
be in attendance.

With the end of the term, I haven't accomplished much since I
reported last week.

However, I have been working on getting an error report for compiling
on the CS department's cluster, but my account seems to be having
issues. Their system is Gentoo and uses GCC 3.4.6-r1 from Portage.

Once I am able to test building against MPICH2 and meet reproducible
success on several systems, I will move forward with packaging the
latest efforts with the BASIN_kernel package.

Something I would like to mention is that recently Gentoo has marked
GCC 4.1.1 as stable in Portage. I feel that with this announcement,
we should begin to create a plan to test BASIN against GCC 4.X
systems. Perhaps one of the machines on our cluster could be
sacrificed for the sake of being updated to the latest stable Portage
snapshot for testing builds with GCC 4.1.1

Perhaps as an intermediate goal, I think we should start testing
against GCC 3.4.6 as it seems that even this smaller update may cause
problems when used to build BASIN.

Finally, I would like to post my schedule as I transition to full
time. I should be able to put in a few hours from home this week. I
will be taking next week (Sept. 11 to 15 off) and would like to begin
full time on September 18. Please let me know if there are any issues
with this schedule. I am in the process of contacting my co-op
advisor to see what paperwork is needed to officiate my job here and
I'll let the group know once I have that sorted out.

Thank you,
~Doug
